Aspiration partners with The Wikimedia Foundation through its Plant Your Change movement to plant 400,000 trees

Following the launch of Plant Your Change for all, Aspiration is announcing a new collaboration with the Wikimedia Foundation to support the planting of 400,000 trees during their year end fundraiser for Wikipedia.org.

For every donation of US$1 or more made to the Wikimedia Foundation during this collaboration, Plant Your Change — an initiative by Aspiration to plant at least 100 million trees in the next decade — will plant a tree to protect the environment.

“As part of Aspiration’s ongoing commitment to fight climate change,  we are proud to align ourselves with the Wikimedia Foundation to support their fundraising and sustainability efforts,” said Andrei Cherny, Chief Executive Officer for Aspiration, which powers the Plant Your Change movement. “Services like Wikipedia are more important than ever in a year like 2020 when access to reliable information is critical for both current issues and the distance learning of millions around the world.”

Aspiration has launched the Plant Your Change program because recent studies have indicated that planting trees is one of the best ways to combat human-caused climate change.

On PlantYourChange.com anyone can safely and securely connect their existing debit or credit card to start planting carbon-soaking trees with every round up they make. By making every card swipe a proactive step toward significantly reducing levels of CO2, this micro action helps promote better water quality, improved soil strength, and preserves animal habitats.¹ For the Wikimedia campaign, Plant Your Change is donating the trees. There is no requirement for Wikimedia donors to sign up with Plant Your Change.

“Aspiration is committed to supporting organizations who have a shared mission of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability,” said Irfan Kamal, Head of Sustainability for Aspiration. “With over 3 million trees planted since April, Plant Your Change is proof that small actions can add up to big change.”

In this season of giving, we hope you will consider supporting Wikipedia and its efforts to meaningfully reduce future carbon impacts through Aspiration’s Plant Your Change program.
